Disney Casts Rescue Dogs in ‘Lady and the Tramp’ Remake

By Sara Roncero-MenendezAugust 9, 2019

The world is on fire, atrocities are happening everywhere, and frankly, one has to focus on the good and adorable in the world to keep from falling into hopelessness. Thankfully, our overlords at Disney have deigned to save us from our misery with the adorable first look at all the dogs cast for the upcoming Lady and the Tramp live-action remake.

Unlike The Lion King, which used computer animation to create the cast of the film, the Lady and the Tramp remake will have a doggie cast. And on the plus side, they are all rescue dogs!

Here is our Lady and Tramp, played the dogs named Rose and Monte. Lady will be voiced by Tessa Thompson, aka Valkerie from the Thor movies. Tramp will be voiced by Justin Theroux, of The Leftovers fame.

Sam Eliot will play the loyal bloodhound Trust, while Janelle Monae will play Peg, who famously sings “He’s a Tramp” in the original film. Here’s their dog counterparts:

Finally, we have Jock, another of Lady’s friends, played by Ashley Jensen, and Benedict Wong will play Bull, one of the pound dogs:

In an interesting move, the film will not premiere in theaters. Instead it will go directly to Disney+, perhaps as an incentive to get people to sign up for the service. To be fair, the power of dogs has led people to do more difficult, stranger things.

Lady and the Tramp will premiere on Disney+ November 12, 2019.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
