SDCC 2019: ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ announced

By Robert DolenJuly 20, 2019

Natalie Portman makes a welcome return to the MCU, alongside Chris Hemsworth, as the Goddess of Thunder in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Now deemed worthy of wielding Mjolnir, Portman rejoins Hemsworth’s Thor in the fourth installment for the solo series after skipping Thor: Ragnarok. With Portman triumphantly crossing the stage during Marvel’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con (Mjolnir in hand), Director Taika Waititi confirmed that Thor 4 would adapt Jason Aaron’s The Mighty Thor comic run for the film.

But that’s not all, as this Kevin Feige has confirmed the existence of another LGBTQ character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; Valkyrie played by Tessa Thompson. It has been hinted before that she might be the one. There was a scene in Thor Ragnork that featured a woman walking from Valkryie’s bedroom and it was supposedly very explicit. Except it was cut for various reasons. The original character was also bisexual in the Thor comic book.

Coming at the tail end of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor 4 will once again be directed by Waititi, who gave new life to the otherwise generic Thor solo films with Thor: Ragnarok.

Love and Thunder is slated for release in fall of 2021 as the last film in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I'm Rob Dolen, not to be confused with Bob Dole! That's alright, I get it all the time. I play too much Super Smash Bros. competitively, but when I'm not doing that I play pretty much everything else under the video game sun.
