Hit Comic ‘Paper Girls’ to be Adapted For Amazon

By Sara Roncero-MenendezJuly 14, 2019

Streaming services are always looking for more source material for shows, and now Amazon is mining for a great show in a great comic, Paper Girls.

The comic, created by Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang and published under Image Comics, follows a group of paper girls in 1988 that end up getting caught in the middle of a fight between time-travelers. With that 1980’s angle, Amazon could be trying to get in on that nostalgia that Netflix’s Stranger Things has been cashing in on.

According to Deadline, Toy Story 4 co-writer Stephany Folsom will be the screen writer with Vaughan as executive producer. Paper Girls is the first project under Vaughan’s multi-year deal with Legendary Entertainment, the company making the show.

This won’t be Amazon’s first show based on a comic book series. A series based on The Boys, 2006 comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, will premiere on July 26, 2019. It’s definitely a darker series that looks at a world where superheroes do as they like, and a group of regular citizens must work to keep them in check.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
