Update: Astral Chain Trilogy Planned, Sequels Will Depend On Sales Performance

Update: During the IGN Benelux, it was first believed that Astral Chain was being developed as part of a series. However, the director of the game has stated he was misquoted. As such, Takahisa Taura has posted an update on Twitter that states this isn’t the case. There aren’t any plans for a follow-up and Platinum Games is working on this game with no additional plans.

Original Story:

While Platinum Games is still working on Astral Chain for the Nintendo Switch, they’ve been dishing out details regarding the game. In speaking with IGN Benelux (IGN’s Dutch branch), they dropped a few new details about the game.

The first being that Astral Chains is actually being developed as a trilogy. Which I believe is the first time that anyone outside of Platinum Games or Nintendo is aware of. The caveat, however, is that Astral Chain’s sales performance will dictate if those sequels are greenlit or not. Which means Nintendo needs to advertise the hell out of this game to help ensure the game continues.

If not, we could see elements of a follow-up in place during the first game and never see the continuation. We’ve had that happen in a number of games in the past. It never ends well for those playing those games. Let’s hope that Astral Chain pulls off some amazing sale figures in the first few months.

There’s a bit more in this interview that was conducted during E3 2019. I recommend that if you have a passing interest or are all in with the game, to check it out here.

Astral Chain releases on August 30, 2019, for the Nintendo Switch. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to try it out. It’s looking like this will be Platinum Game’s most over the top action title to date. Yes, that also includes Nier: Automata (I love this game) and Bayonetta 2.
