Once Fortnite season 10 gets underway, it will bring with it several changes on the PC. These changes, however, will likely end up forcing people to upgrade PC if they want to continue playing the game.

According to Epic Games, Fortnite was always meant to run on a DirectX 11-capable GPU. However, since Fortnite ended up becoming so popular, they kept the game online using minimum specs so everyone could play the game. That said, those days are over once season 10 gets underway.

Hey all,

Starting with Season 10, the PC version of Fortnite will require a graphics card capable of running Microsoft DirectX 11.

While a DirectX 11-capable graphics card has always been one of Fortnite’s system requirements, we’ve kept support online for players with older graphics cards – so they could keep playing!

However, when Season 10 begins, Fortnite will no longer be compatible with these older graphics cards. This allows us to focus our development and testing efforts to further optimize the Fortnite experience for all players.

Thank you for the continued support!

Now while GPU’s sold within the last 6 years are able to utilize DirectX 11. There are going to be those who’ve managed to get by with a DirectX 9 GPU. Sadly, those days are numbered. Thankfully, if you’re still running an older OS such as Windows 8 or even 7, you’re in luck. As both operating systems support DirectX 11.

As for when Fortnite season 10 drops, only Epic Games knows for sure. While they’ve teased the end of season 9, they’ve yet to say anything officially. Even still, if you’ve been eyeing a GPU upgrade, perhaps now is time to pull the trigger.
