E3 2019: Apex Legends Details Season 2

By Josh PiedraJune 8, 2019

During their EA Play event at E3 2019, Electronic Arts unveiled what is coming for Season 2 of Apex Legends! Before we get to that, they announced  a few things for Season 1

Apex Elite Queue: You can now test your skills against the most talented legends in the game. Placing in the top five of any match will grant you access to the Apex Elite Queue in order to do this. Getting your first Top 5 finish of the day will earn you a Battle Pass level.

Hunt Challenges: Completing Hunt Challenges will earn you rewards such as weapon and character skins. Earning level 15 earns you the Night Terror skin.

They are holding a Double XP weekend from June 7-June 9. Level up your experience on your base and your Battle Pass progression. Also, they are loading up the store with new characters skins and other cosmetics. The Legendary Hunt for Season 1 will last between now and June 18 so don’t miss on your chance for this timed event.

As for Season 2, Drew McCoy joins Goldenboy up on stage to talk about all of the features coming but most importantly, Season 2 will be called Battle Charge and will begin on July 2!

New Legend, new weapon, map event, new way to play the game. Done through feedback, weapon balancing.

The first thing announced was a new weapon called L-Star which is a Plasma Rifle. You can get this weapon only in a care package because they cite that it is overpowered. Because of its high power level, the weapon doesn’t use ammo in the game so what you get with the weapon at the start of a match is what you have until you run out.

Speaking of weapons, they plan on doing a weapons balancing pass. The goal is to buff weaker weapons.

Battle Pass – They are restructuring the Battle Pass by making it challenge-based instead of time-based. Daily and weekly challenges will be featured this time around but there’s no need to complete them immediately. You can stockpile them and can come back in a month and knock them all out if you choose to do so. However, doing so will not make the leveling process to 100 faster.

There will be three new content types, new skins, and enough crafting metals that by the time you hit 100 to craft the legendary of your choosing. There will also be a new way to play in the form of Ranked Mode. Players can progress through 6 tiers which range from bronze to Apex Predator. Matchmaking in Ranked Mode is based on skill/performance and noted that the higher you get, the longer it might take to match you up with someone as the game is checking multiple parameters to ensure that you are matched up with someone of equal skill. The rewards will be based on where you ended up at the end of the season.

10th legend coming in Season 2 is Wattson. She is a defensive legend that utilizes memorizing maps and laying traps and defenses to prevent things such as zerging or other methods that have shaped the meta.

An animated short was shown which introduced Wattson’s backstory which you can check out below:
