Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 Roster Discussed By Dev Team

By Todd BlackJune 3, 2019
Ultimate Alliance 3 Super Smash Bros Ultimate

One of the things that made the original Marvel Ultimate Alliance games so much fun was that they had a large roster that you could choose from in regards to picking characters and teams. Sure, you had classics like Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, and Wolverine, but you also had the chance to play as Blade, and more. Now, with Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, the goal is to bring even more variety to the table.

There will be over 30 characters to play as in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, which includes the Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time among other new playable characters. So, with the large history of Marvel Comics at their disposal, how did the team choose which characters to put in? Marvel Games VP and creative director Bill Rosemann talked with Game Informer about this, and noted the following:

“It all comes down to gameplay and story. And we wanted to look to the past and be true to the experience, but also look ahead to what’s happening now in Marvel and looking ahead to what’s coming from Marvel. It was really balancing all of that. What characters were in the game in the past that people really liked? What characters are rising stars now at Marvel? What are some new characters that have never been in the game that are gonna be really fun to play? And what opportunity do we have to introduce gamers to some new characters they may not know about? And also, gameplay – how the characters work by themselves, how they work when they combine together in twos and threes and fours. Then overall for the story, what really cool story additions? At the end of the day… what can we really smash together that you won’t expect to see? X-Men with Guardians of the Galaxy – what?!”

The game releases exclusively on Nintendo Switch on July 19th, 2019.
