Codemasters Announces Reboot Of Their Popular Track Racing Title Grid

Yesterday, Codemasters announced they are working on a Grid reboot. Which is a bit confusing to me as Grid actually has several games (Grid, Grid 2, Grid Autosport) under the label. It’s also part of the TOCA or  Touring Car Championship series. The reboot is being developed for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The reboot will include tracks that span four different continents and will include multiple racing classes. Such as Stock, Muscle, GT, Touring, and Super-Modified. In addition to this, Codemasters has tapped Fernando Alonso, a two-time Formula One World Champion as a consultant for the game.

“GRID as a racing franchise is revered by our community and we are delighted to bring it to the current generation of consoles,” said Chris Smith, GRID Game Director at Codemasters. “The game offers so much variety and depth, from the number of modern and classic cars through to the locations and race options. Renowned for its handling, the game will appeal to all types of player, from casual drivers who want a lean-in challenge, to sim drivers who want some serious fun.

I’m not sure what made Codemasters think about rebooting this series, but I’m glad they did. I enjoyed the previous titles and was bummed when we didn’t see anything else after Grid Autosport was released. Judging from the gameplay video that IGN released, we can at least see there is a decent cockpit view. The cockpit view that was released in Grid Autosport was a joke a best.

The lighting also looks to be improved compared to the last title as well. Outside that, it definitely looks like the Grid I remember. Hopefully we get some more tracks this time around, as that was also a huge concern with the other titles. That and Codemasters pretty much telling the community right after the game released that we wouldn’t get any other tracks.

Grid (reboot) releases this September 13, 2019, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
