Nintendo Switch Has Surpassed The Sales Of The PlayStation 4 In Japan

Well, the Switch has done what some considered the impossible, yet again. This time the mighty hybrid has surpassed the PlayStation 4’s sales numbers in Japan. Definitely not a small feat as Japan certainly loves the PS4, but it just goes to show that their love for the Switch is definitely greater.

According to Famitsu who released the recent numbers, the Switch has clearly taken the lead. And get this, it only took two years! Where it took the PlayStation 5.2 years to get to the same numbers.

Switch – 83,471 (8,125,637)
PS4 – 17,646 (6,918,073)
PS4 Pro – 12,357 (1,159,683)
Xbox One X – 196 (15,177)
Xbox One S – 186 (90,202)
New 2DS L – 8,840 (1,619,429)
New 3DS LL – 1,511 (5,877,659)
Vita – 1,088 (5,859,668)

Now, I can tell this is already going to start some debates, I can hear them now. None of which should negate the success the Switch has had in Japan. Nintendo has had an outstand past couple of months, with the release of several titles that have been selling really well. Not to mention other titles that have been selling strong ever since their original release.

  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!
  • Splatoon 2
  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
  • Super Mario Party
  • Yoshi’s Crafted World
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

It’s not hard to see what the Switch is doing extremely well.

Also, we can’t discount the release of several upcoming titles which includes Super Mario Maker 2, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Pokémon Sword and Shield, Animal Crossing, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and DAEMON X MACHINA. All of which are slated to be released later this year.

However, the big question now is when will or if the Switch can pull off the same amount of success in the other locales. Mainly North America and Europe, especially as both countries are huge for PlayStation. We’ll just have to wait and see, won’t see.

Either way, this is huge news for Nintendo!
