More Assassin’s Creed leaks have emerged as a 4chan user posted details on the new game, reportedly named ‘Ragnarok,’ as well as screenshots from what appears to be an early alpha build of the game.
Posted on both 4Chan and ResetEra forums early this morning, an anonymous user published details and several screenshots of very early gameplay of the supposed next ‘Assassin’s Creed’ game, which had been rumored earlier this year under the codename ‘Kingdom.’
It’s important to note that a lot of these details, paired with the following messy screenshots, should be taken with a grain of salt. If any of these details are even remotely true, they would have come from a very early build of the game that’s nowhere near production.
According to the anonymous publisher, the game’s actual title is Assassin’s Creed: Ragnarok, and will be releasing both on PS4 and Xbox One as well as the expected new console generation in 2020. Supposedly players will follow a fictional “ally of Ragnar Lodbrok and aids in the formation of [The] Great Heathen Army” in 9th century Europe.
The 4Chan user also noted some vaguely ambitious details of a world map spanning all of early Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.
One notably important feature that is allegedly returning to Ragnarok is coop gameplay. According to the post, “most side quests and world exploration” will support cooperative gameplay as well. Assassin’s Creed hasn’t seen multiplayer modes of any kind since ‘Unity’ was released in 2014.
Several features introduced in Origins and Odyssey are reportedly returning as well. The regional strongholds and conquest battles are returning, which if true pairs well with the warring nature of early Anglo-Saxon kingdoms during 9th century Europe.
There is also supposedly a “larger emphasis on build and armor usage,” which points to a more prominent focus on the RPG elements introduced in previous titles as well.
Several blurry photos taken off screens seem to show very early gameplay footage, based on the quality of models and unfinished texturing of the environment. Some 4chan users replied making comparisons to Mount & Blade as evidence that these screenshots are fake/doctored.
It’s tough to both confirm or de-bunk this rumored leak, but it does (rather conveniently) corroborate with rumors and hints earlier in the year of a Viking Assassin’s Creed game coming in 2020.
