Mario Kart Wii Sold More Than Mario Kart For Wii U Last Year

By Todd BlackMay 6, 2019
Mario Kart

Ok, so even the most diehard of Nintendo fans admit that the Wii U was a failure. Sure, it had some great games, but in terms of console sales, and even game sales to an extent, it was a failure. Even its best game in terms of numbers, Mario Kart 8, was the worst-selling game of the series.

The opposite though is for Mario Kart Wii, which was one of the best-selling games for the best-selling Nintendo console. Which brings us to the recent Nintendo financial briefings. Which revealed that Wii Kart title actually sold five times more than the Wii U Kart title in the last fiscal year. 20,000 to 100,000. That’s shocking considering that the Wii isn’t even being made anymore.

Of course, the winner here is Nintendo, because that game continues to sell, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch is the second best-selling game on the system, surpassing what it did on Wii U by millions, and growing.
