‘Y: The Last Man’ Adaptation on FX Looks for New Showrunners

By Sara Roncero-MenendezApril 16, 2019

Fans of the cult comic classic, Y: The Last Man may have thought they got some disheartening news this morning. Executive producers Aida Mashaka Croal and Michael Green posted this statement, a mere two months after the show was ordered to series:

Some outlets even went so far to say that Y: The Last Man was never going to make it to the screen. But have no fear! It turns out that the wording on that statement was a little bit confusing for everyone. Entertainment Weekly went out to get the story straight and here’s the real truth: Croal and Green are walking away from the project to pursue other work but the show is still on! Currently, FX is looking for another showrunner (or runners) to helm the show. So, yes, the show is still on, there’s just going to take a little longer to make it to our TV screens.

For those not familiar with the comics, here’s a quick run down. On July 17, 2002, every mammal with a Y chromosome suddenly all die, leaving two survivors: Yorick Brown and his Capuchin monkey, Ampersand. No one know why these two were spared from the death, but his mother, a Congresswoman, strives to protect him as a solution is found through travels around the world. In the show, Yorick’s mother will be played by actress Diane Lane. The original comic was written and drawn by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
