We’re Getting Some Sort of The Surge 2 Announcement This Week

By Keith MitchellApril 8, 2019
The Surge 2 news is coming this week

While Deck 13’s follow-up to their award-winning title, The Surge, was announced some time ago. The last time we heard or saw of The Surge 2 was during Gamescom 2018. Since then, Deck 13 was been eerily quiet and many had assumed that the game had been canceled. Not me, I held out and hoped we’d hear something, anything. Especially since E3 2019 is a few months away.

Looks like we won’t have to wait that long, as the director of the title, Jan Klose, took to Twitter and teased some news. Expect some cool announcements this week, reads the tweet.

As for what we’ll see and hear, I can only assume that it will be about The Surge 2. Sure, Deck 13 does work on other games and has even started publishing other games as well. However, thanks to that hashtag for The Surge being included. Well, what else could I assume? That and the title was announced to launch this year.

As for the follow-up, Deck 13 did mention a few things about the game previously. Such as the upgraded combat system, which lets you target more specific limbs on enemies. Not to mention the combat will be faster and deadlier. The game will run on an upgraded version of the FLEDGE engine. Which happens to be the same engine that powered the first game, just made even better. Newer weapons will be available, with a few favorites making their return. Lastly, the game will take place in a new location called “Jericho” and we’ll have the option to not only play as a male or female but also able to customize our characters. Something that wasn’t available in the first game.

Hopefully this follow-up address several issues I had with the first game. Mainly the animations can be lengthy and can put you at a disadvantage at times. Including, positioning you over a pit or a ledge, leaving you to plummet to your death. Those weren’t fun times. Maybe even a centralized hub this time, instead of having a save point in every level.

I can’t wait to see what Deck 13’s been sitting on all this time. I enjoyed The Surge and clocked in a huge mass of hours across the PS4, Xbox One and PC. Needless to say, I can’t wait to do it all over again in the sequel.
