‘Stranger Things 3’ Trailer Packs the Summer Full of Action, Suspense, and Monsters

By Sara Roncero-MenendezMarch 20, 2019

The day we’ve all been waiting for on bated breath. Okay, maybe not THAT dramatically, but lots of people have been dying to see the first look at Stranger Things 3, and now it’s finally here:

We got some of the stuff we expected – our gang of friends are still together and having a blast, even if Dustin maced Lucas in the face with Farrah Fawcett hairspray. As referenced in an earlier teaser, there is a new mall in Hawkins and it looks like a good amount of the fighting will be talking place there, with its bright neon colors and crazy patterns. What are they fighting? Well it looks like we’ve got armed goons running around a fair, everyone’s favorite sheriff on the hunt for something, and it looks like Billy, Max’s asshole step-brother, has been infected with a very familiar-looking substance. Oh and that terrifying looking monster at the end, likely the Demogorgon 2.0.

We see Will and Eleven with their own ominous issues. Will is covered in water and looking back at a photo of the four friends nostalgically. Eleven is back in that dark headspace, dealing with some seriously dark stuff, thrown around and almost drowning. What is surprising is how little we see of our older teens – Nancy, Steve, and Jonathan – though they are around during the big action set pieces. We even see Steve briefly getting injected with something in the neck, so it looks like they’re being dragged back in to the supernatural adventure.

Out cast continue to expand. It looks like Lucas’s little sister Erica will be getting in on the action as well, as we see her briefly crawling through a vent. We also see Cary Elwes playing Hawkin’s very own Mayor Kline, trying to reassure the people that he has their best interests at heart, and failing miserably.

This trailer is action-packed, and I cannot wait to see how it all turns out. There’s been no word yet that this is going to be the last season, but there’s something about Will’s “We’re not kids anymore” speech that has a certain finality to it, right? Well, let’s keep our fingers crossed that they’re going to be more after this 1980’s fueled season.

Stranger Things 3 will premiere on Netflix on July 4, 2019.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
