The First ‘Toy Story 4’ Trailer Will Hit You Right in the Feels

By Sara Roncero-MenendezMarch 19, 2019

Toy Story is one of the few franchises that hasn’t had a bad installment in its main line-up of films, and one most had thought was tied up neatly at the end of Toy Story 3. However, it looks like the creators feel there’s still a story to tell, as we can see in the first trailer for the upcoming Toy Story 4:

This trailer feels, in a weird way, like the story going full circle. Woody sees a new toy coming into Bonnie’s life and taking up her attention, but rather than trying to get rid of him like he did with Buzz, Woody accepts and protects Forky. Forky, however, feels that his purpose is not to be a toy but rather to be used and then thrown away, like a normal spork. He escapes while the family is traveling in an RV and Woody, of course, goes to save him. As per the usual, the two are separated from the other toys and must find their way back, but first they come across Bo-Peep, who has found happiness living at a fair.

It is interesting that, after the very solid ending of the third movie, that they would come back for more, but it seems like everyone was on board for this project. All of the main cast has returned, and Annie Potts has returned as the voice of Bo Peep. Tony Hale plays newcomer Forky, Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key play fair prizes Bunny and Ducky, and surprisingly, Keanu Reeves is here in a still unspecified role. Does he voice those terrifying Goosebumps-looking ventriloquist dummies in the antique store? Or is there a mysterious character still hiding in the shadows? Is Bo Beep as innocent and liberated as she seems?

Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how this plot ties into the overall mythology and philosophy of the franchise, and if this will finally be the last installment in the series.

Toy Story 4 is set to premiere in theaters June 21, 2019.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
