Hideo Kojima Provides Updates on Death Stranding, Compares it to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

By Andrew AgressMarch 7, 2019

Ah, Death Stranding. You elusive beast you. It seems that bits of news are few and far between, but lately creator Hideo Kojima has released a few tidbits of info here and there. First, the game’s development is running behind schedule, to the surprise of nobody. Kojima is known for taking his time with games. In an interview with J-Wave, Kojima stated that Death Stranding is slightly behind schedule but not by much. The funny thing is, Kojima never gave a tentative release date in the first place, so nobody would have known if it was behind schedule anyways. That being said, Kojima did hint at a release date happening this year, so it’s likely he doesn’t want to be tied down by that. While there’s no way of knowing for sure, it seems an early 2020 release for Death Stranding may be in the cards.

In other news, Kojima gave a quintessentially cryptic piece of info about the story and gameplay of Death Stranding. Even with several trailers out, it’s still unclear what the game consists of. But luckily, we know know it’ll be like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. In a recent tweet, Kojima compared the hit animated film to the upcoming game, saying that they share the same theme. How so exactly? No idea. But if it’s the same quality as the film that recently won Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, then I can’t complain.

And it very well might be a high quality game. Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the director of the upcoming Metal Gear movie, recently went hands on with Death Stranding and had nothing but high praise for it. As the director of a movie based on Kojima’s famous series, it makes sense he’d like it, but calling it a “miracle” seems to suggest that he more than enjoyed it.

It sounds like there’s quite a ways before Death Stranding releases, but information is coming at a steadier rate. As more info comes in, we’ll be sure to keep you posted on the game’s development. And whether we get a trailer that shows Norman Reedus slinging webs across Manhattan. If this is the case, my money is on Mads Mikkelsen playing a Doc Ock type character. You heard it here first, folks.
