The First Teaser Trailer for ‘Frozen 2’ Looks More Epic than the First

By Sara Roncero-MenendezFebruary 13, 2019

No matter what anyone says, Frozen was a cultural phenomenon. From everyone and their mother singing “Let it Go” ad infinitum to political pundits accusing Disney of hiding a gay agenda/climate change conspiracy in the plot, no one could escape the film. Now a couple of shorts later, we’re finally getting the promised sequel, just titled Frozen II, to the film and, well, it looks pretty intense.

There are few details about the plot at the moment, other than the barebones official synopsis, which is: “Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf are going far in the forest to know the truth about an ancient mystery of their kingdom.” This is pretty exciting, given that we only get to see the Fjord and some of the woods in the first film. In the trailer itself we see Elsa trying to use her ice powers to cross a tumultuous ocean, along with Kristoff and Sven leading a charge of reindeer, Anna looking forlorn before trying to trudge forward. We also see two new characters for the briefest of seconds, like those new comers played by Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown. Finally, we see Elsa protecting Olaf from some strange pink fire and finally, a tense moment looking over the horizon until Anna attacks something behind them with a sword.

Now, what’s interesting is there are two weird elements in the trailer: the aforementioned pink fire and one of the new characters floating in the air. Could part of the plot possibly be that there are other characters in this world that can control different elements, like air and fire? That might be a cool twist to the story as it exists, and it could help explain where Elsa’s powers come from. Either way, the trailer makes it seem like an epic adventure that continues the story of these powerful and beloved characters.

Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, the directors of the first film, are back at the helm of this film, and the original songwriters Bobby Lopez and Kristen-Anderson Lopez have already composed four new songs for the film. It looks like Disney is not trying to mess with success for this sequel. Still, we’ll have to wait a while longer to see if this movie is going to have the same impact that the first did.

Frozen 2 premieres in theaters on November 22, 2019.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
