The Nintendo Switch Has Sold 32 Million Units Worldwide

By Todd BlackJanuary 31, 2019
Nintendo Switch 2

2018 for the Nintendo Switch may not have been the greatest year ever in terms of software releases (save for Pokemon and Smash Bros and Octopath Traveler, with a few others), but the console sales have most definitely been impressive. And now, after a long wait, we know the official numbers of where the system stands in terms of sales. Yeah, it’s a lot, because at the latest Nintendo Financial Briefing, the Big N revealed that the Switch has sold 32.27 million units as of December 31st, 2018.

Yep, that’s a lot, and you need to remember, the Switch hasn’t even been out for two full years yet! And yet, it’s already sold that much. Granted, Black Friday and the Christmas holiday was a big boon for the system, especially Black Friday-Cyber Monday, which the nintendo Switch dominated. And its December was said to have been huge, and now we can prove it.

Just for reference, at the beginning of October, the Switch was at 22 million, now it’s at 32 million. Pretty good.

But how about the games? Well, all told, the Switch has sold 163 million software units, and there’s a new top game on the list of best-sellers. Check it out:

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 15.02 million
Super Mario Odyssey – 13.76 million
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 12.08 million
Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 11.68 million
Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu / Eevee – 10.00 million
Splatoon 2 – 8.27 million
Super Mario Party – 5.30 million
1-2 Switch – 2.86 million
Mario Tennis Aces – 2.53 million
Kirby Star Allies – 2.42 million
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze – 2.08 million                                                                      Xenoblade Chronicles — 1.5 million                                                                                                        Octopath Traveler – 1.08 million (not counting Japan)
Nintendo Labo: Variety Kit – 1.06 million
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker – 1.05 million

Did you notice that Super Smash Bros Ultimate sold 12+ million in a month? Or that Pokemon Let’s Go is at 10 million? That’s pretty impressive, and with 2019 starting off good with Super Mario Bros U Deluxe and No More Heroes, and more to come, the sales will likely continue.
