Microsoft’s The Initiative Picks Up Former God of War Level Designer, Chris O’Neill

By Keith MitchellJanuary 23, 2019
Microsoft's The Initiative

The Initiative, Microsoft’s newly created studio which was announced during E3 2018, have been on a mission.

Since it’s creation, the studio has been assembled a star-studded team. Adding to this team is today’s news of Chris O’Neill, a former level designer for God of War. He even racked up some time with Kojima Productions and Sony Santa Monica. According to Windows Central, who first broke the news, Chris had been working with The Initiative for about a month so far.

He joins the Initiative Studio, team headed by Darrell Gallagher, who previously worked on the Tomb Raider franchise at Crystal Dynamics. Along with previous pickups,  Tom Shepherd, Brian Westergaard, Daniel Neuburger, among others. It’s clear that Microsoft is putting together a force for a new generation of games for both Xbox and Windows. Quality games such the previous God of War and even Uncharted.

Needless to say, this drive was due to Microsoft constantly being criticized for their lack of diversity of games for their Xbox One console. Prompting Microsoft to not only create this Studio but also acquiring several others. This includes longtime partner Playground Games, Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, Compulsion Games, Obsidian, and inXile Entertainment.

Microsoft has something cooking, the only question is when we will be able to get a taste of it?
