For the past few weeks, it was rumored that a follow-up to Alien: Isolation was being planned. As of this morning, we find out that the game actually does exist – Alien: Blackout. Great news, especially for fans of the original game. However, in a shock that has surprised many, myself included, the title is being developed for both Android and iOS devices, by FoxNext, D3 Go. Yep, this won’t be making its way to the PC or console.
From what I understand, the game takes between the events of Alien and Aliens, just like Alien: Isolation did. However, it would seem that this time the story is more about what’s going on with Amanda Ripley. Unlike in Isolation, where the majority of the game was tracking down what had happened with Ellen Ripley. Amanda finds her self on yet another Weyland-Yutani space station, with yet another Xenomorph chasing after her and the crew (or what’s left of them).
The terror of Alien is brought to life in Alien: Blackout. Try to stay alive while trapped aboard a crippled Weyland-Yutani space station carrying a deadly Xenomorph as it tirelessly hunts you and the crew. Outsmart the perfect hunter by making perilous choices. Players must rely on the damaged controls of the space station or risk sacrificing crew members to avoid deadly contact, permanently altering the outcome of the game.
Survive seven fear-inducing levels by remotely guiding Amanda Ripley’s crew through increasingly challenging tasks using only the station’s emergency systems. The uncertainty and unpredictability of both the alien and her crew can impose total defeat for Amanda and the entire station.
Alien: Blackout is a unique fear-inducing horror premium mobile game experience that will test the inner nerves of both Alien and horror fans alike, where life can end in an instant.
Judging from the trailer, it seems that you’ll be using the map as well as other devices to guide the characters to safety. However, there’s not very much we can pull from the trailer. So we’ll have to wait for more details of the game to be released.
To be honest, I’m a bit disappointed this is a mobile-only affair. I really enjoyed Alien: Isolation and was looking forward to this being available on either the console or PC platforms. At the same time, it’s too early to write the game off just yet – I’ll reserve my judgment when I am able to get my hands on the title.
