Celebrate the New Year with the Announcement of ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 Release date

By Sara Roncero-MenendezJanuary 1, 2019

Welcome to 2019! For those of you who are just recouping from your hangovers now, do we have some news that is going to put some pep in your step – the date for Stranger Things Season 3 has been announced!

The short video may not be supply a lot, but it does have a few hints. We see a broadcast of Rockin’ New Year’s Eve from 1985 interspersed with some computer code. The first part is a jumble of characters that arranges itself and reads, “When blue and yellow meet in the west.” There’s also the new mysterious Lynn Corp coming up in a command window and executing their “SilverCatFeeds” program. The broadcast then begins to flip upside-down and someone’s voice can be heard screaming.

Netflix also release a new poster that tells us a lot. In it, our main group of tweens are watching the fireworks from a cliff, but Eleven and Will are looking behind them, as though they sense something coming. We see Max and Lucas on the same side together, likely meaning they are still an item, and Eleven and Mike are holding hands. Here’s the poster with the tagline “One summer can change everything”:

We do now know for sure that the season will take place again in the summer (though this commercial featuring Steve hints at that as well). We also know that we will be getting some new characters in the mix, played by Maya Hawke, Jake Busey and Cary Elwes. Hawke plays Robin, a woman who comes dangerously close to the dark secrets of Hawkins; Busey plays a local reporter with some questionable morals, and the legendary Elwes plays Hawkins’ very own Mayor Kline, who is described as “a slick and sleazy politician.”

What it all means, we’ll have to wait and see, but it looks like it’s going to be another wild ride.

Stranger Things Season 3 premieres on Netflix on July 4, 2019.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
