Dungeon Fighter Online Is Making The Jump To 3D

Dungeon Fighter Online, that grindy action-RPG title that I spent a good portion of time with previously is looking rather different. Or it will when the next season of the title is released. Get ready for Dungeon Fighter Online 3D.

During a recent announcement by Project BBQ, the company showed off a new version of the game. Those we’ve played or still do play Dungeon Fighter Online, know that it’s currently a 2D title. However, once the new version gets released, it will drop the 2D in favor of a 3D look and will run on the Unreal Engine 4. Bringing it into the modern-era of beat em’ up and action-RPGs. Now, from what we understand, even though the game shares the same name as the original, this will be a completely new game.

Looking at the video, I have to say I really am loving the art style. It has that anime-look to it and I’m sure that was the plan all along. The action also looks to be over-the-top, fast and well ridiculous. Something I’m sure will draw in massive crowds that can’t wait to get their hands on the game. As for Nexon being involved, I know many are going to be upset about the possible impact on our wallets. There’s no denying that Nexon and monetization go hand and hand, however, after seeing how Maplestory 2 is doing. There’s a chance that the pay to win is going to be toned down. Thankfully, Neople, the self-publishing arm of Nexon is handling the game, so there’s still some hope.

At the moment, we’re not sure what the plan is for distributing the game. There hasn’t been any word on if this will stay overseas or if we’ll see a release here in the West. However, given the success of the game once it was made available on Steam. There’s a high chance we’ll see it. We’ve also reached out to Project BBQ for more information on the title. As for when we’ll see the game, well that could be quite the wait. Apparently, the game has only been in development for about a year. So we may be in for a wait until the title is released in a full version or even an early access version.

Throwing it out there, I’d love to see this also hit the consoles. Maybe even some cross-platform play. C’mon, this looks like it would be fun on any platform, and having on more than one just makes sense from a business standpoint.

Until then, keep checking out the teaser footage below.
