Makoto Shinkai Announces New Film & Release Date

By Josh PiedraDecember 13, 2018
Tenki no Ko

Makoto Shinkai and CoMix Wave Films announced their newest full-length feature anime movie, Tenki no Ko: Weathering With You (Weather Child: Weathering With You). The film is slated to open in Japan on July 19, 2019. The film is slated to release worldwide with releases already planned for North America, Europe, Asia, and South America.

The story is described as being about a boy named Hodaka who decides to move to Tokyo after leaving his home on an island. Once in Tokyo, Hodaka finds himself short on money. Hodaka eventually finds a job as a writer for a disreputable occult magazine; however, is the occult really that far-fetched? On one particularly rainy day, he meets a girl named Hina on a crowded city street. Hina is no ordinary girl, though. She has the power to stop the rain and clear the sky.

Since this is a story written by Makoto Shinkai, I would expect a lot of symbolism through the rain. Also, it will be a travesty if there isn’t a single train or railroad track anywhere in this film!

In addition to the story and release date, the movie’s cast has also been announced!
