Nintendo Owns All Ten Best-Selling Exclusive Titles Since 1995

So if you haven’t noticed, the NPD (which tracks all the sales in the United States in regards to video games) has been on a bit of a nostalgia trip. A very glorious one mind you, as it’s revealed a lot of interesting things about the game industry. But now, they’ve found out something that will definitely cause people to scratch their heads a bit, especially since it’s beneficial to Nintendo.

You see, instead of saying finding out the best-selling games on a console, as they did with the N64 and Game Boy Color, Mat Piscatella decided to do something a bit broader. He went and looked at all the sales numbers of EXCLUSIVE titles that released between 1995-2018 (at present counts) to see which ones were the best-selling of the lot. He looked at dollars sales of the games, and he found that every single entry on the list that was made…belonged to Nintendo. Here’s the list:

  • #10 – Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo Wii)
  • #9 – Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)
  • #8 – Super Mario 64 (N64)
  • #7 – Mario Kart DS (Nintendo DS)
  • #6 – New Super Mario Bros. (DS)
  • #5 – New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii)
  • #4 – Wii Fit Plus (Wii)
  • #3 – Mario Kart Wii – (Wii)
  • #2 – Wii Play (Wii)
  • #1 – Wii Fit (Wii)

Kind of mind-blowing, isn’t it? Granted, it was a logical conclusion that Nintendo had many spots on the list, but this many? All ten? That’s pretty interesting. Also interesting is that seven of the spots belong to the Wii, which is to date Nintendo’s best-selling console ever.

Then again, in a few years, this list could shift to feature a few Nintendo Switch games, it just depends on how sales go. Either way, it’s very enlightening, and another cap to put in the Big N’s Mario cap.
