Holy Crap, Name Changes Are Finally Coming To PSN

Holy Crap! We never thought we’d see the day that the PlayStation Network would allow for name changes. Perhaps the single most requested feature to be added to the service – but now, it’s coming. I still can’t believe this is happening.

Announced over on the PlayStation blog, the following information regarding the name changes have been posted. Among those is that the first name change is free. Which is similar to what Microsoft has done with their Xbox Live service. After that, every other name change is $9.99 or $4.99 if you are a PlayStation Plus member. There’s even an option to still display your original name. That way, when you change your name and your friends see this new name that suddenly popped up, they won’t delete you.

Now before everyone gets excited, there are some stipulations. As of right now this is only be offered to those in the PlayStation Preview Program.  This is compatible with PS4 games originally published after April 1, 2018, and a large majority of the most-played PS4 games that were released before this date.

Sony is hopeful that this will be rolled out in early 2019! So there you go, now you can finally get your name changed. Good news for a feature that has been requested many times over. Once this goes live, you won’t have to go around with that less than desirable name that you’ve had since PSN was a thing. Or make your already desirable name, worse.
