True Crime Hit ‘Making a Murderer’ is Back with Part 2 This October

By Sara Roncero-MenendezOctober 10, 2018

True crime stories have been making a comeback in a big way. For podcasts, it was thanks to Serial, from NPR. For TV, however, many would point to the surprise documentary hit Making a Murderer. Many have debated about the guilt or innocence of one Steven Avery, who was convicted of murdering photographer Teresa Halbach. Now it looks like we’ll get the next part of the story with Making a Murderer: Part 2.

Whether or not you believe that Avery did or did not do it, few people could take their eyes off the show for its in-depth portrayal of a man seemingly caught in a system that already decided he was guilty. Now in Part 2, it looks like Avery might be getting a second chance with a powerful attorney on his team, the shady practices of the Manitowoc County police have come to light, and new evidence making its way into the hands of investigators. Will we finally know who killed Teresa? Will they be able to prove if the police really did frame Steven like the documentary has claimed?

Again, Netflix made a weird decision to suddenly promote the follow-up to a hit show very close to when it is set to premiere, like Bojack Horseman Season 5 getting a trailer barely more than a week before its premiere. It could be that Netflix, and other streaming services, are not worrying about playing the long game for shows they know already will do well. Still, it feels strange to just know that in a few short days we will be getting the next part in this enthralling true story, and maybe we will be one step closer to learning the truth of what really happened.

Making a Murderer: Part 2 premieres on Netflix on October 19, 2018.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
