Nintendo Making a New Switch Model in 2019

By Josh PiedraOctober 4, 2018
Nintendo Switch 2

The Wall Street Journal reported that Nintendo is planning a brand-new Nintendo Switch model that they intend to release sometime near the Summer of 2019. Nintendo’s desire is to update the console in order to maintain its sales momentum as it has been no secret that the Nintendo Switch has been one of Nintendo’s best-selling consoles. Despite this report, Nintendo hasn’t stated what kind of new features or improvements will be made to the system; however, improving the display on the system was one of the bigger concerns they were looking to fix.

The Nintendo Switch originally launched last year on March 3 and sold an estimated 330,637 units in Japan alone within the first three days of its launch and surpassed 500,000 units in Japan in just four weeks. By June 25, the Switch sold over 1 million consoles in Japan alone. Worldwide, the Nintendo Switch has sold 19.67 million consoles since June 30, 2018. Their goal of selling 20 million consoles by March 31, 2019 is certainly within reach.

Sales for the console are still solid but they are no longer delivering the favorable surprises that Nintendo is hoping for. This is the primary reason around the Switch’s planned revamp.
