‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ Trailer Has Been Released

At long last, Fox has finally released the trailer for the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Now as a huge X-Men fan (ever since I was a child), part of me is screaming on the inside about it all.

It’s been really hard for me to watch the rebooted X-Men movies. Mainly because the focus is all over the place and I grew up on the X-Men. I’m used to what’s in the comics and TV, so when I see these movies changing all that. Well, it tends to bother me. Yet, I’m a fair critic and I give everything a chance. That said, I’m a bit conflicted over this.

A young Jean Grey is sent to Xavier’s school for mutants, but prior to that somehow she kills her parents? Charles makes her forget it all and she goes on with her life. Now, the Phoenix Force (That lovely manifestation of cosmic powers that’s always doing something bad in the Marvel Universe) is on the way and not only is Jean becoming the Dark Phoenix. She’s also remembering her past. Including what Charles did to her and she’s quite pissed off. Which likely how the Phoenix starts to take over. That’s basically the premise for this film, and eh. I dunno about this all. The way that Jean is being portrayed, it’s almost as like she’s the bad guy. Now, we all know Jean’s history has been troubled but there was always this dynamic to her and I’m not seeing this in the trailer. Here, she just seems hellbent on revenge. This doesn’t sit right with me.

Is it bad that I’m getting some serious X-Men: The Last Stand vibes in it all? On the plus side, I’m happy to see that Quicksilver and Storm have joined the team. I enjoyed seeing them in the previous X-Men movie, and Storm is easily one of my favorite X-Men. Here’s hoping she gets some quality screentime this time around.

Ok, It seems like I’m being a bit unfair and I admit that I might be. So I’ll reserve judgment on X-Men: Dark Phoenix until I see the actual movie. But for now, I’m not really sure about what’s going on.
