Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood Heading to the PlayStation 4

What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets

We’ve seen the ratings and we’ve heard the rumors, but I still refused to believe that both Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood we’re being re-released. Except, that’s exactly what’s happening as Sony has announced that both games will be available on the PS4 as part of Castlevania Requiem bundle.

Priced at $19.99, the game will be available on Oct. 26, 2018. Right in time for Halloween. You can pre-order the title right now over on the PlayStation Store (link isn’t up as of yet). This appears to be a digital-only title, as I haven’t seen any info about a physical release.

Play as either Alucard, son of Dracula in Castlevania Symphony of the Night. Or the less known Belmont, Richter, in Rondo of Blood. The latter is a title I’m looking forward to the most as it was more of an obscure title. Released on the PC Engine and then again on the Wii’s Virtual Console, Rondo of Blood was an amazing title that deserved to be played by everyone. Now, those that missed out (or weren’t born) will be able to experience the game and rightfully so. Castlevania Symphony of the Night, on the other hand, has been re-released multiple times and has been available on the PlayStation, PlayStation Portable, Sega Saturn, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Suffice to say, I’m sure everyone knows about this game.

Both games will include several upgrades, including 1080p / 4K resolutions, and multiple rendering filters. I’d imagine that smoothing and scanlines will be included. They’ll also be playing in their original ratio (4:3). I can’t even begin to count how many times I’ve played Castlevania: SoTN. It’s a timeless classic and I’m sure I’ll be playing it again. But Rondo, oh boy. that’s an amazing title. Just as good as Castlevania: SoTN. I can’t wait for this re-release.

Now for the bad news. Sadly, this appears to be a PlayStation-exclusive. Meaning if you’re a Castlevania fan and you don’t have a PlayStation then you’re going to miss out. I’m not sure why this is being contained to one platform, but I don’t make the decisions. If you do pick up Castlevania Requiem, play Rondo of Blood, first. You can thank me later.
