‘Captain Marvel’ Teaser is a Blast from MCU’s Past

By Sara Roncero-MenendezSeptember 18, 2018

When the long-awaited Captain Marvel movie was finally put into production, people were anxious to see how, and when Carol Danvers would make her appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (more commonly known as the MCU). Now we see that Carol has been on the scene for a lot longer than we thought in the new teaser trailer for Captain Marvel:

The first give away that we’re in the past comes right at the beginning, when Carol Danvers, played by Brie Larson, crashes into a Blockbuster video store. Clad in a Kree uniform, we see her approached by a younger Nick Fury, who has both eyes intact. It is here where we see Nick interact with Carol, learning about the presence of other life in the universe and the threat that it could be to the human race. Fans often complain that there’s no way Fury could have known about an alien threat when he was building the Avengers Initiative as a part of S.H.I.E.L.D., but it turns out the MCU found a way to plug up that plot hole.

We also see that Carol has no memory of her life on Earth other than flashes in her dreams about her childhood and career as an Air Force pilot. Something has moved her to leave the Kree and come to Earth, though what that is exactly in unknown. Apart from Larson and Samuel L. Jackson, we also see Jude Law in his role as Captain Mar-Vell, but no cameo from Lee Pace’s Ronan the Accuser, who is set to make an appearance. We also get to see some of the action, including Carol fighting on top of a bus and powering up, which looks incredible so far. But I wouldn’t expect less from awesome directing duo Anne Boden and Ryan Fleck for their debut in the MCU.

Captain Marvel will premiere in theaters on March 8, 2019.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
