Meet the Cast of Quentin Tarantino’s Upcoming Manson Family Film

By Sara Roncero-MenendezSeptember 2, 2018

We’ve spoken before about Tarantino’s upcoming film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which will look at the time of the Manson Family murders but we haven’t had any concrete details as to what the story would follow nor who would play what role. Now, however, the picture has become pretty clear.

The film will follow TV actor Rick Dalton and his stunt double Cliff Booth, who lived next door to Sharon Tate and try to find work around the time of the Manson murders. Dalton will be played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Booth will be played by Brad Pitt. Sharon Tate will be played by Margot Robbie and her husband Roman Polanski by Rafal Zawierucha.

Australian actor Damon Herriman will play the infamous cult leader Charles Manson. Not only will this be his first big Hollywood role, but it will also be the first of two times he’ll be playing Manson. That’s right, Herriman will reprise this role for the Netflix’s series on serial killers, Mindhunter. That’s not the kind of typecasting most actors would relish, but at least 2019 will be a big year.

Other cast members in unnamed roles include Kurt Russell, Timothy Olyphant, James Marsden, Zoe Bell, among others. Other actors in named roles include:

  • Dakota Fanning as cult member Squeaky Fromme,
  • Al Pacino as Dalton’s agent Marvin Shwarz,
  • Mike Moh as Bruce Lee
  • Emile Hirsch as murder victim Jay Sebring
  • Lena Dunham as cult member Catherine Share
  • Damian Lewis as Steve McQueen

It’ll be interesting to see what exactly the plot involves, and just how big a part the Manson Family in the story, giving it’ll follow two characters who were on the periphery of the action, so to speak.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is set to premiere in theaters on July 26, 2019.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
