They’re actually quite tame
Microsoft’s and Playground Games upcoming open-world racer, Forza Horizon 4, releases in just one more month. And as such, they’ve finally released both the minimum and recommended PC requirements to play the title. Surprisingly, both requirements are quite tame.
Keep in mind that these are the very same requirements that were announced during Gamescom 2018. It’s just that Microsoft has finally updated the Forza Horizon 4 store page with them. For those rocking AMD setups, we also include the equivalent AMD processors as Microsoft omitted to put any of those on the requirement page.
Minimum PC Requirements
- OS: Windows 10 version 15063.0 or higher
- Processor: Intel i3-4170 @ 3.7Ghz OR Intel i5 750 @ 2.67Ghz / AMD A6 5400K @ 3.6Ghz
- Memory: 8GB
- GPU: NVidia 650TI OR NVidia GT 740 OR AMD R7 250x
- GPU Memory: 2GB
- DirectX: DirectX 12 API, Hardware Feature Level 11
Recommend PC Requirements
- OS: Windows 10 version 15063.0 or higher
- Processor: Intel i7-3820 @ 3.6Ghz / AMD FX 8320 @ 3.5Ghz
- Memory: 12GB
- GPU: NVidia GTX 970 OR NVidia GTX 1060 3GB OR AMD R9 290x OR AMD RX 470
- GPU Memory: 4GB
- DirectX: DirectX 12 API, Hardware Feature Level 11
So there you go, now that you know the requirements you can either be content with your current setup. Or get ready to break the piggy bank for some much-needed PC upgrades. However, I’m imaging that the recommended requirements are merely for 1080p and not 1440p or 4K. Expect those to be a bit more power hungry.
Also, I know that Forza Horizon 3 didn’t have the best PC launch. And even after the launch, it took many months to get the game running at a respectable pace for many. Playground Games assures us that the PC has been given top priority when it comes to Forza Horizon 4. In fact, the recommended specs are for 60FPS, instead of the 30FPS in FH3. It also seems like the PC version is in a much better place compared to the previous release.
“We’re now basing our recommended spec on 60 frames per second and not 30, which is a change from Forza Horizon 3,” says Penrose. “We’re really happy with the stability and performance from launch this time round. And we’ve also got a whole bunch of new options you can push [your PC] to the extreme beyond Ultra, if you’ve got a very powerful PC.
We were definitely pleased with the audience. We learned a lot [from Forza Horizon 3], we knew things weren’t as smooth as they could’ve been, and there were some issues there from launch. But that’s why we spent a lot of time focusing to make sure we get it right this time.”
Definitely some encouraging words for PC gamers. I love Forza Horizon 3, however, the PC version just has too many issues. Even to this day. I can’t wait to see how Forza Horizon 4 performs on the PC when it releases on October 2nd, 2018 for Windows 10 and Xbox One/Xbox One X. Or September 28th if you pick up the Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Edition like I did.
