New Mega Man X Any% World Record Claimed by Nero

By Josh PiedraAugust 30, 2018
Mega Man X

On Monday night, eight speedrunners came together in an event called Chase for the Record in order to break the Mega Man X Any% world record which was held by NrGZam with a time of 31:12. Tokyo90, SoppaTV, CalebHart42, NrGZam, Nero_X2, Walrus_Prime, LuizMiguel, and ColonelFatso all came together in order to improve on an already tight record. Sadly, the event didn’t produce a new world record although several close attempts were made.

Chase for the Record started off with a race with all eight participants and then when the race was over, they were free to individually grind out attempts as they saw fit in order to break the 31:12 record. It wasn’t until after the event when Nero_X2 decided to keep on trying and that perseverance paid off!

On the morning of August 28, Nero, despite having a couple of hiccups and bad RNG during the run, finished Mega Man X in 31:09, shaving three seconds off of the world record! For the Any% category, runners must complete Mega Man X in the fastest way possible, bypassing the collection of all items such as Heart Tanks, Sub-Tanks, etc. This is different than the 100% category which requires you to collect all four armor pieces, all four Sub-Tanks, all eight Heart Tanks, as well as the secrete Hadoken power-up. The current world record in 100% is held by Walrus_Prime with a historic 34:57 time. This is the first time in history that Mega Man X has been 100% completed in the 34-minute time range.
