Yakuza Online not dead; More information regarding the game to come next week

During Tokyo Game Show 2017, Sega announced an upcoming game in a new Yakuza series. Known as Yakuza Online, this game would take place after Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and would star a new main character, Ichiban Kasuga.

Unlike the previous Yakuza titles, this new project is being developed for smartphones and PC. It would be free to play title, with micro-transactions enabled for acquiring different items in-game. However, since the announcement, we haven’t heard a peep out of Sega regarding the title. They had gone dark, leaving many to wonder what if Sega has scrapped the game. Thankfully, we’re getting some new info next week.

Sega has announced that there will be a live stream covering Yakuza Online. This stream will begin on August 28th at 5 AM PDT / 8 EDT AM. We’ll finally get more information on the upcoming Yakuza title. Maybe even some gameplay. Hopefully, we’ll also find out if the title will make it over to the West. It’s no secret that the only niche Yakuza games are doing quite well over in North America. Yakuza Zero did well and also recently was released for the PC. While Yakuza Kiwami sold amazingly on the PS4, with Yakuza Kiwami 2 about to be released next week.

Let’s just hope it doesn’t turn into another Phantasy Star Online 2. Yeah, Sega. I haven’t forgotten about that slap in the face. That said, I’m very skeptical about all this. With no hint of any gameplay and that it’s coming to smartphones and PC, well that doesn’t instill a bunch of confidence. We’ll just have to wait and see how this pans out.
