Nintendo Switch Nearing 20 Million Units Sold

Watching the sales of the Nintendo Switch go up and up has been an absolute treat. It just keeps selling, it’s crazy. And now, Nintendo has released their Q1 results for 2018, which goes from April to the end of June, and there’s some interesting things in here that needs to be noted.

First up, the Nintendo Switch itself has sold 19.63 million units. That’s right, it’s just under 20 million, and give that July hasn’t been accounted for yet, it’s fair to say it’s going to get there soon if it hasn’t already. However, this is only an increase of 1.88 million from where they were at the end of March. Which shows a serious slowing of momentum. Yes, 1.8 million in a few months is still impressive, but that won’t get the Nintendo Switch very far if it continues to go at this rate.

Software wise though, the Switch continues to sell its games very well, with 86.93 million game units sold overall now. That basically boils down to every Switch owner having 4 games.

Through the last three months, two games have risen up to join the vaunted “million sellers” list of Nintendo first party titles. Check it out below.

Super Mario Odyssey – 11.17 million
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 10.35 million
Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 9.32 million
Splatoon 2 – 6.76 million
1-2 Switch – 2.45 million
ARMS – 2.01 million
Kirby Star Allies – 1.89 million
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – 1.42 million
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze – 1.40 million
Mario Tennis Aces – 1.38 million

So it’s been an up and down 3 months for Nintendo, and it’s going to be just as interesting to see where the next three months goes with sales. Be sure to listen to our upcoming episode of the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast (here’s the last episode!) to see what we think of this news!
