Damn it Dark Souls, stop toying with my heart

By Keith MitchellJuly 17, 2018
Great Grey Wolf Sif Dark Souls

If you’ve ever played the first Dark Souls,  then you know how the game just loves putting you into an emotional shock. There’s bound to be something in the game that either pulls at your heartstrings. That or something that induces a rage that makes you want to toss that controller to the moon. But there’s nothing more emotional than killing that poor Great Grey Wolf Sif.

But what if I told you that there’s something that makes that fight even worse. Ready? Well, if you play the Artorias of the Abyss DLC before you fight Sif, then you can save him in the DLC. Once you do that, you’re able to summon him on the Manus, Father of the Abyss fight. If it sounds cool, it really is. Except for what follows. Once you’re done with the DLC, you’ll have to go finish off the game.

Well, you don’t have to but you’ll end up doing it anyway. However, when you go fight Sif, the cutscene changes. Previously he would just jump at you and grab Artoria’s sword. Saving him has a different effect. While he’ll still jump at you, he’ll pin you down and start to attack. Except he doesn’t and proceeds to sniff you instead. Yep, he recognizes you as his savior from the DLC. After which, he reluctantly grabs the sword to do battle. I mean, he could have just let us take the sword and looked away. But nope, that ain’t happening.

This is a wolf you saved from death and now have to put down. He’s like the Old Yeller of Dark Souls. So if you can’t bear the pain then don’t do the DLC first.

Damn it, FromSoftware. Why did you do this? No, those aren’t tears. Someone is chopping onions.
