Here We Go, Again: Cristiano Ronaldo Transfer Announcement Could Spell FIFA 19 Cover Change

By Clinton Bowman-ChristieJuly 10, 2018

The Cristiano Ronaldo-era is over for Real Madrid, as the perennial soccer star has transferred to Juventus in a shocking £105 million deal.

Now, what does this mean for FIFA 19? Let’s go back to 2017 and the Kyrie Irving saga in Cleveland.

2K Sports’ NBA 2K18 needed to change the covers of their games to reflect the sudden trade of Kyrie from the Cavaliers to the Boston Celtics, which was completed on August 22nd. The problem, you ask? NBA 2K18 was slated for release less than a month later, on September 13th, essentially making the Kyrie Cavs cover a “misprint” of sorts, with 2K promising to get Kyrie in the correct jersey for future shipments.

EA isn’t in too much of predicament with FIFA 19, however. The famed association football sim releases on September 28, marking well over 2 months to make the necessary changes to the cover, as well as the media surrounding the game. Let’s hope the same thing doesn’t happen with Giannis Antetokounmpo, the NBA 2K19 cover athlete. Oh, and one last thing…at least the 20th Anniversary Edition of NBA 2K19 only shows newly christened Los Angeles Laker LeBron James’ head.
