Anime Expo 2018: Netflix Renews ‘Aggretsuko’ for a Second Season

By Sara Roncero-MenendezJuly 5, 2018

Fans of Aggretsuko rejoice! At the Netflix panel on Thursday during Anime Expo, the company announced that the show would be getting a second season, coming sometime in 2019.

The show will continue in partnership with Sanrio and production studio Fanworks, and will continue the story from the previous season. No word yet as to whether Rareko, who directed the first season, will be back for the the second season.

Aggretsuko‘s first season followed Retsuko, a red panda who works a tough office job, forced to work under a sexist, demanding boss, chatty and annoying co-workers, and other inconveniences of daily life. She makes new friends, falls in love with another red panda (who she ultimately breaks up with), and continues to be true to her death-metal-loving self.

Hopefully, we’ll get to see a little development in Retsuko’s relationships with the two boss women, Gori and Washimi, as well as a potential budding romance with Haida.

The show proved to be a huge success in its initial run, so it’s no wonder that Netflix would be eager to get another season up and running while the iron is hot, so to speak. We’ll bring you more information when Netflix releases a trailer and/or premiere date.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
