Warner Bros. Announces New ‘Looney Tunes’ Episodes

By Charlie ShawJune 24, 2018

Classics never die as Warner Bros. gets ready to bring back the Zany characters of Looney Tunes for new episodes.

Warner Bros. Animation had recently announced that they are planning a Looney Tunes revitalization set for 2019. The project will consist of 1000 minutes of animation, with each episode ranging from 1-6 minutes in length. Each short will be drawn and written by the cartoonist – something that is very uncommon in animation today.

The idea behind the revival is to recapture the magic of the golden era of Looney Tunes. It was an important period for animation; where episodes were comprised of bite-sized shorts and cartoonists also had script-writing duties. This lead to cartoonists having full control of episodes, giving them a wide range of creativity to work with, resulting in some of the most iconic episodes of all time.

There have been a few attempts to revive the Looney Tunes franchise in the 21st century. Most were forgettable, some were just outright terrible, but the direction Warner Bros. is going with the upcoming revival seems promising. Letting the animators have creative control over episodes could lead to many artist’s interpretations of what made the original Looney Tune’s shorts so special. This project could lead to a plethora of faithful episodes that harken back to that once magical era of cartoons.

Expect to see some classic characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Elmer Fudd when the Looney Tunes shorts airs in 2019.
