Command and Conquer: Rivals leaves a sour taste in fan’s mouths.

Command and Conquer: Rivals

During the EA Press Briefing at E3 2018, the handheld division decided to announce something that isn’t sitting well with fans; and that is the announcement of the classic RTS game Command and Conquer coming to mobile platforms under the title Command and Conquer: Rivals.

In one of the more cringe-worthy moments of a very slow and uninformative Press Conference, we got to see two eSports commentators talk excitedly about the game and a live match while two players sat off side and looked more like their souls were dying than actually enjoying the game. The gameplay, as you can see in the video below (Somewhere around the 1:44:45 mark) consists of two teams working their way around a map to control at least 2 of 3 control points where every now and again a missile will launch to do damage to the opposing team’s base… Sounds familiar if you’ve played Blizzard’s MOBA: Heroes of the Storm.

To be honest, this didn’t sit well with many people sitting on the show floor along with many people watching the livestream of the Press Conference, and as what happens on the internet, they posted their disapproval on Twitter.

Me right now. Command and Conquer Rivals turned into a F2P mobile tapper. "C&C for a new generation!" Me: pic.twitter.com/VM17BmBty5

Man, can't believe they resurrected C&C after nearly a decade only to bring it back as a mobile game. I feel very sorry for old Westwood fans. #CommandAndConquerRivals https://t.co/yad7xGy4q3

To say the backlash for Command and Conquer: Rivals has been all negative would be a bit of an overstatement. However the gameplay video that EA released alongside the trailer you’ll see below was taken down since it gained over 500,000 downvotes in a matter of minutes, compared to the 300 likes it had before removal. EA had a lot of good will by this point in their presentation by swearing away from industry money spinners like Lootboxes and Premium passes for some of their bigger titles, then they go and stuff it all up by releasing this rubbish.
