BlacKkKlansman Trailer Debuts New Film From Spike Lee

By Jacob SmithMay 16, 2018

Recently we had the pleasure of another Spike Lee-directed film being introduced to us in the trailer for BlacKkKlansman. The movie which made its debut at Cannes Film Festival tells the story of Ron Stallworth and his efforts to infiltrate and dismantle the Ku Klux Klan in the early seventies. In addition to Lee’s directorial efforts the movie was produced by Jordan Peele, who is still riding high off of the success of Get Out, as well as the announcement of his next film Us.

John David Washington plays Stallworth in this retelling of the true story of the detective’s cunning and heroism. Other notable names among the cast are Adam Driver as Stallworth’s partner in the undercover investigation Flip Zimmerman, and the unassuming Topher Grace as the Klan’s leader David Duke.

This seems as though it could be a return to form for Lee, as the award-winning director’s most notable works have been cited as culturally impactful and relevant to the struggles that plague the black community in the United States. Only time will tell us whether or not his story about the first black officer in the Colorado Springs Police Department will hold steadfast to this tradition, but the intriguing trailer and a standing ovation at its Cannes premier both bode well for the title.

BlacKkKlansman hits theaters August 10th. Be sure to follow the film on Twitter (@BlacKkKlansman) and check out its trailer below.
