Nintendo Online Introduces Cloud Saves Alongside NES Online Play

By William "Shadowz" KokMay 7, 2018

Nintendo finally unveiled more information to their online service, Nintendo Switch Online.

The online service is still on schedule to begin sometime in September. Even more important, Nintendo is finally implementing cloud saves for Nintendo Switch games.  Yes, longer will you have to worry about your save data being corrupted and losing all your save data and the many hours invested. Further details will be provided before the launch of their service in September.

They also expanded more in regards to the pricing of the service. We knew that it would be at most $20 for a 12-month membership. That would only apply for one user. How about if there is multiple users that wants to use the service, but want to save money on it? Nintendo now has a plan for 8 users to group up together for a the price of $34.99. Individually, that’s a total of $160. A major discount in comparison.

For now, they announced that 20 NES games will be launching alongside the service. Such titles as Super Mario, Ice Climber, and Balloon Fight.  A new addition to these classics is that the NES games will now have online play. To which they said:

With online play added to every classic game, you can compete (or cooperate) online with friends, share your screen, or pass the controller, depending on the game. With the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app, you can also voice chat during your play sessions.

When service begins, users will be required to have a membership in order to play games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Arms, or Splatoon 2. Titles will vary in which will utilize the online service. While it’s a shame to have to pay for it for a service we are getting for free, I feel the price of admission and perks will be worth it. Plus $20 for a year, already a better price compared to the competitors.

You can view the current details on their Nintendo Switch Online official page.
