The fate of American Gods was looking troublesome lately, but it looks like we’ll be seeing more deities living amongst humans soon.
A teaser trailer for Starz drama American Gods dropped recently, announcing that production on season 2 has officially started. The teaser is more of a quick, behind-the-scenes look at filming for the show, with Neil Gaiman saying that, “Things are gonna get darker, things are gonna get more dangerous.” The video also announced the release date for the show, which will be sometime in 2019.
The series is based on the book of the same name, which was written by Neil Gaiman. The first season of the show covered approximately a third of the book, so it’s expected that the series will need at least 3 seasons to cover the entire story.
Fans of the show can finally breathe a sigh of relief, especially after all the drama that occurred once season 1 finished airing. Back in November, the showrunners of the series, Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, stepped down due to problems with FremantleMedia over creative direction and budget. Soon afterwards, Gillian Anderson left the role of Media due to Fuller and Green’s departure. Kristen Chenoweth, who played Easter, reportedly considered not returning as well.
With the showrunners and a fan-favorite departing, it seemed as if the show would never air a second season. Thankfully, that will not be the case. Now, Jesse Alexander and Neil Gaiman will share showrunning duties, and the rest of the cast from season 1 will return, including Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon and Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday .
It’s been a rocky few months for American Gods, but things are starting to look up for this wonderfully bizarre show.
