Alden Ehrenreich Signed on for 3 Star Wars Films

By Charlie ShawApril 28, 2018

Let’s hope the new actor taking on the role of everybody’s favorite space smuggler does the character justice – because we’re (probably) going to be seeing him on the big screen for a while.

Alden Ehrenreich, who will play a young Han Solo in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story, sort of spilled the beans on whether or not he’ll be reprising the role in future installments. During an interview with Esquire, Ehrenreich was asked how many films in the Star Wars franchise he signed up for, and the actor responded with, “Three.” Soon afterwards, he realized what he’d just said and followed up with, “I don’t know if that’s officially, uh, public. But—yeah.”

As awkward as that announcement was, it paints a very interesting picture for the franchise. It shows that Lucasfilm, the production company for Solo, sounds confident in Alden. So much so, that they believe they’ll be able to make a successful Han Solo prequel trilogy – which I’m not entirely sure fans are excited about.

While the production company may seem satisfied with the actor’s performance, the Star Wars fan base doesn’t seem to be okay with it. Many are not happy with the casting choice of Han Solo for the new movie, with most of the criticism coming from initial trailers, which includes little dialogue from Ehrenreich that comes off as uncharismatic to some.

There was also the issue of having an acting coach on set to help Alden during filming, which seems to raise a few red flags as to whether or not he’d be up for the task. This is not good – especially when Disney is about to release a film to a fan base that’s already split on what they want from their franchise.

Playing a character that Harrison Ford made iconic was never going to be an easy task – no matter which actor landed the role. Ford made the character of Han Solo his own. Trying to picture another person in the space smuggler’s boots just doesn’t seem possible – but it will be, and it is going to be a tremendous uphill battle for Alden Ehrenreich.
