‘Ricky and Morty’ and Dungeons and Dragons Crossover Comic in the Works

By Charlie ShawApril 14, 2018

Get your Plumbus and twenty-sided dice ready folks, because we’re about to witness one crazy crossover this year.

While plans for season four are still up in the air, fans won’t have to wait long to get their Rick and Morty fix. The Rick and Morty franchise will be teaming up with IDW Publishing and Oni Press to produce a four-issue comic book series that will combine everyone’s favorite dysfunctional duo with one of the most influential role-playing games of all time: Dungeons and Dragons.

The comic series, which launches this August, will be created by a stellar team. Patrick Rothfuss (The Kingkiller Chronicles), will co-write the series along with Jim Zub (The Avengers). Troy Little, who had previously worked on the graphic novel Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, will provide artwork for the Rick and Morty/D&D crossover series.

Patrick Rothfuss, in particular, was very excited to work on the comic:

“I love Rick and Morty with a powerful love, and I’ve played D&D since the 5th grade. So when they approached me about writing a story with both of them together? That’s some serious you-got-chocolate-in-my-peanut butter $#!& right there. I’m in. I’m all the way in. I’m getting that chocolate all up in the peanut butter. Like, deep in. All the way in. It’s going to be sticky and delicious.”

Sounds like he’s in the right mindset to deliver a fun comic combining two popular franchises.

This crossover is a great fit, especially since the show’s creator, Dan Harmon, is a huge fan of Dungeons and Dragons. I am very excited to see how the story will unfold and what types of classic D&D monsters Rick and his grandson will encounter. I’m hoping to see a few mind flayers, mimics, and owl bears throughout the pages.

Hopefully this limited comic book series will help tie fans over until we hear any new announcements regarding season 4 of Rick and Morty.
