Colin Trevorrow to Direct ‘Jurassic World 3’

By Charlie ShawApril 7, 2018

The man responsible for digging up the dinosaur franchise with Jurassic World is coming back for the third installment.

In an exclusive with Entertainment Weekly, Steven Spielberg said that Colin Trevorrow will “write and direct the third Jurassic World story.” Spielberg will also serve as executive producer for the third film.

Trevorrow had previously helmed directing duties on 2015’s Jurassic World, as well as co-writing the script with Derek Connolly. For the third installment, he will be joined by Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim: Uprising) to write the script. Producers from the previous films, Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley, will also be back for the upcoming Jurassic World 3.

Recently, Trevorrow was set to direct Star Wars IX but was fired from the project and replaced by J.J. Abrams. While there is no official confirmation as to why he was fired, it was likely due to difficulties working with Lucas Films. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the initial directors of Solo: A Star Wars Story, were also fired for similar reasons.

As for the Jurassic Park franchise, it seems Trevorrow is on very good terms with Legendary Pictures, seeing as he’s been attached to every movie in the World franchise in some form. While he may have had some creative differences with Lucas Films, Legendary Pictures seems to trust his vision for the Jurassic World trilogy.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is set for a theatrical release on June 22, 2018 and will be directed by J. A. Bayona. It will star Chris Pratt, Dallas Bryce Howard, and Jeff Goldblum reprising his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm. Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly return as co-writers.
