It’s almost been a year since Metroid Prime 4 was confirmed to be coming by Nintendo, and since then, we’ve been hungry for more information about it. So far, there are only rumors. The only thing we know for certain (outside of Samus being in it) is that Retro Studios won’t be making it. And this has led to rumors that Bandai Namco is developing it, potentially. Now though, a brand new rumor has arrived. For the game will apparently have a Co-Op campaign option…with Dark Samus.
This is only a rumor, but the source seems to have heard something from a member of the dev team (who they refuse to name…take that as you will…) about Dark Samus not only being in Metroid Prime 4, but her being a key part of the story on the positive side (I.E. trying to help Samus instead of trying to destroy her), which leads to the series first ever co-op campaign.
For those who don’t know, the Metroid Prime Trilogy followed Samus Aran in her quest to stop Space Pirates and other evil entities from harnessing an energy source known as Phazon. In the original game, she defeated a being called “Metroid Prime”, and this then was reborn as Dark Samus. Dark Samus appeared in Metroid Prime 2, and was the main villain in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
Now, if you’ve played Corruption (if not watch the video below), you know that Dark Samus was killed at the end of the game, so how can she be in Metroid Prime 4? The source wouldn’t say. But then again, this is a series that has killed Ridley how many times exactly? And he keeps coming back.
Either way, the idea of a full-on Co-Op Campaign in Metroid Prime 4 is intriguing, especially if they use the original Prime Trilogy as a device to help ensure that Dark Samus plays very differently from regular Samus (Phazon attacks and such). You also have to wonder if they’ll go the Portal 2 approach and make two entirely different storylines based on whether you do singleplayer or Co-Op. The possibilities are endless…
