Lucas Hedges to Play a Younger Shia LaBeouf in ‘Honey Boy’

By VeronicaMarch 18, 2018

In interesting casting news, Lucas Hedges is set to play a younger version of Shia LaBeouf in Honey Boy, a film loosely based on LaBeouf’s own life. LaBeouf will be playing the role of his own father in the film. Lucas Hedges was in this year’s Lady Bird and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in last year’s Manchester by the Sea. Shia LaBeouf is in the upcoming Borg vs. McEnroe, for which his performance has earned him critical acclaim.

LaBeouf cowrote the screenplay under the pseudonym Otis Lort, he reveals in an interview with Esquire. The story tracks the relationship between a child actor (Hedges) and his abusive, alcoholic father (LaBeouf) over the course of a decade. Presumably, it will loosely follow LaBeouf’s Disney days starring on the show Even Stevens. The script was first hosted by LaBeouf on The Black List, a networking site for scriptwriters and producers. Alma Har’el is set to direct, known for her documentary Bombay Beach. The movie will be financed by Stay Gold Features.

A semi-autobiographical film about the relationship between Shia LaBeouf and his father, in which Shia plays his own dad, seems to be in line with his style these days. Filming has not yet begun, and other than this casting news not much is known about the picture.
