TNT’s ‘The Librarians’ is Cancelled After Four Seasons

By Sara Roncero-MenendezMarch 13, 2018

We appear to be right in the middle of TV culling season, and yet another beloved show fails to make it another round. TNT is closing the book on its series The Librarians.

For those not in the know, The Librarians was an adventure show in which a team for four Librarians with various skillets journey to solve mysteries, find powerful artifacts, and fight against supernatural threats, with a returning villain being the Serpent Brotherhood.

The show goes in a decidedly campier direction than the majority of TNT’s new scripted shows, including The Alienist and the upcoming Snowpiercer. The show was developed prior to the hiring of current TBS and TNT president Kevin Reilly. Reilly was responsible for cancelling other fan favorites, including Major Crimes, Murder in the First, Rizzoli & Isles. Overall, it’s hard to deny that the cancel is going in a darker, and more expensive, direction which leave The Librarians as the odd one out.

Show runner Dean Devlin, however, has inspired some hope with this message on Twitter:

Just got the official call. TNT has cancelled #TheLibrarians – I will immediately begin the process of trying to move the show elsewhere. Please keep your fingers crossed for us!

That’s right, in an age where streaming services pick up cable shows for continuations, The Librarians might have a second life, coming soon to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, or other streaming service near you. After all, it wasn’t like there was a rating drop that led to this dropping, so any place that picks it up is sure to bring along a pretty devoted fanbase.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
