Review – On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 3

By GetseliousDecember 8, 2013

Systems: Xbox LIVE, PC, iOS, Android
Release Date: June 25th, 2013
Developer: Zeboyd Games
Publisher: Penny Arcade, Inc.

Penny Arcade’s On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 3 was released almost a year ago. If you’ve played any Zeboyd Games before, or enjoy RPG’s in general, this game might be a good fit for you. Using a turn-based engine centered on MP actions that regen per turn really combine for a unique battle experience. Add in character classes to the mix, and you’ve got hours of strategy ahead of you for finding that perfect team.

Story wise it’s complicated yet easy enough to follow due several repetitious plots being mentioned. Though the wording on how some characters talk makes it hard to understand certain things such as jokes or plot points. Also some of the classes are lackluster and down right sucks. Overall it is a good RPG experience that doesn’t force grinding enemies or item farming for the player to enjoy it. My only gripe: WHY DIDN’T THIS GAME HAVE MORE DLC!

Should you check out On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 3?

Summary

Pros:
Early endgame – around level 35 – 44 [on normal].
Good mix of comedy and plot throughout the game.
Moira is hot.
The Beginning of the End DLC is free.
You don’t need to play the first two On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness games to play this sequel.
The enemies are just…wow; you have to seen some of them and be sure to read their descriptions.

Cons:
Certain class skills overlap with the main skills of the characters.
Slacker and Dinosorcerer seriously sucks as classes. They’re not as useful as the others in the long run. Hell, even the Diva class is better…
The wording on some of the captions from the character’s dialog can make it rather hard to understand the jokes, character interactions and plot sometimes.
